| Anise Seed Powder: A small white flowering plant with green leaves growing only as high as 2 feet. A.k.a.: Aniseed, and Sweet Cumin. World Literature supports documents showing it was used as a spice and also for medicinal purposes, dating back to 1500 BC, with references in the Bible as well. Most commonly used as a spice for numerous dishes, including meat and desserts, due to its licorice flavor. It is also used in many different types of liqueurs. Medicinally used for dry, sore throats, as an expectorant with coughs associated with colds, and to promote intestinal motility. This plant can be grown in a climate that is warm and sunny for 4-5 months/year and is classified as an annual. The seed is harvested from the flower, however the leaves can be used to chew as a breath freshener and also to be placed in soups and broths for flavor. |
